According to the insurance brokerage, Chile is pioneering electromobility in public transport.

On November 19, 2018, the FR Group insurance brokers and the general insurance company Sura delivered the first insurance policy for electric buses. The total amount of assets insured only for electric buses is US $ 60 million, which considers the Metbus fleet (100 buses), the STP fleet (25 buses) and the Vule fleet (75 buses).

They will also shortly insure the electric bus fleet that Red Bus will incorporate. The covers protect the bus against different risk exposures; Partial damages, total loss due to malicious acts, damages due to accidents to the transported passenger and damages to third parties that may be affected by accidents.

‘The characteristics and technical particularities of these buses created a new need, which we responded with policies and coverage that go beyond the standard,’ says Francisco Rodríguez, general manager of FR Group.

Rodríguez also explains that Chile is being a pioneer in the region, since it is the first country with a relevant fleet of electric buses in public transport. ‘These machines stand out for the high standard of comfort. What’s more, there is no reference in other countries except in China, ’he remarks.

The buses have software that controls speed, cameras to identify blind spots inside the bus, USB charging areas and generate less noise both internally and externally. </ p>
