Attendees are insured for medical expenses of up to 20 UF in the event of accidents one kilometer from the box office of the stadium, from 4 hours before the game and up to 2 hours after.

The world’s major leagues have insurance at their stadiums in the event that attendees have an accident. And although in Chile their recruitment is voluntary, all first and second division clubs have one.

This Saturday afternoon the Superclassic is played between Colo Colo and Universidad de Chile at the Monumental, and for those attending the stadium there is insurance that is borne by the house in accident case: the Safe Fan.

What is it?

Jaime Risopatrón, commercial manager of FR Group Corredores de Seguros -which offers this insurance to clubs-, explains that it covers medical expenses and accidents of up to 20 UF (about $ 545,000) for all spectators, even protecting the passer-by, sports journalists , the food vendors in the stadium, ultimately anyone who is in the stadium.

In this line, in order to collect insurance, the accident must have occurred 1 kilometer from the box office, from four hours before the game and up to two hours after the finished. In the event of death, coverage is up to 200 UF (about $ 5.5 million). Of course, it does not cover events of violence between the bars of the clubs.

Are there more sinister matches?

“There are indeed different risk exposures depending on the matches that are insured and the teams that participate -in this case a Superclassic-, not only because of the insurance issue but also because it is an event of great call and defined by the authorities of high risk ”, comments Risopatrón. Likewise, he adds that “the Superclassics do not necessarily have a higher accident rate, in fact, we could say that, quite the contrary”.

The way to collect this insurance in the event of an accident is that once the accident occurs, the person must request proof from the Police and attend to the place they choose. With the proof and entry ticket to the event, contact the organizing club for reimbursement of medical expenses.

The other soccer insurances

There are four other insurances that the clubs contract, where “the accident rate of the different products has evolved upwards, but in a controlled manner,” says Risopatrón.

1 Loss of Profit: for serious injuries to professional soccer players. This would apply, for example, in the case of Claudio Bravo, who will be without playing for more than six months due to injury and Manchester City will have to pay his salary without being able to participate competitively. In general, they are minimum premiums of US $ 30,000 a year.

2 Accident / death insurance: some clubs insured in the local environment have contracted insurance that protects events similar to what happened with the Chapecoense team , where practically the entire team suffered a fatal plane crash. These coverages are for insured amounts of around US $ 20 million.

3 Liability Insurance: to cover risks against accidents and injuries in which the organization is responsible, three kilometers around the box office.

4 Injury and medical expenses insurance: for both female and male professional footballers.
